Highlights of local events for charitable giving.

A collaboration of the American Cancer Society and National Association of Basketball Coaches, the 15th annual Spokane Coaches vs Cancer Gala on Sept. 24 raised $145,000 to fund cancer research and support patient programs with $24,450 dedicated to expanding the Patient Navigator program in Spokane, which enhances timely treatment and reduces barriers to care. Along with inspirational speakers, the event included a live auction and ‘Final Four’ Shoot Out Cancer free throw competition.

The March of Dimes hosted the Signature Chefs Auction on Oct. 1 at Hotel RL Spokane at the Park. Three hundred attendees enjoyed the 90-minute tasting event with cuisine prepared by award-winning local chefs. The event, which included an auction and music by the Spare Parts, raised $152,000 to continue its work to end premature birth and other health problems that threaten babies.

On Oct. 7, over 1,200 friends of the YWCA Spokane celebrated the professional leadership and accomplishments of seven local women at the annual Women of Achievement IMPACT Luncheon. Attendees raised $330,000 to support YWCA Spokane programs. Other highlights included the launch of the “Good Guys” movement to end domestic violence and a speech by “The Iron Nun,” Sister Madonna Buder.
